Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has been featured on the cover of iconic Time magazine’s upcoming issue, for bringing up the inequities of Indian society to front through his television show “Satyamev Jayate” or “Truth Alone Prevails”.

With the caption “Khan’s Quest”, the Time issue will be published on September 10, according to IBNLive.com.

The Time’s advertisement says: “He’s breaking the Bollywood mold by tackling India’s social evils. Can one actor change a nation?”

“Satyamev Jayate” is a clever blend of hard news and raw emotional appeal. Its influence has even prodded the notoriously lethargic government machinery into action.

Aamir reached an estimated one-third of the country with his TV talk show that tackles persistent flaws of modern India that many of its citizens would prefer to ignore including the rampant abortion of female foetuses, caste discrimination and the slaying of brides in dowry disputes.

The TV show has attracted a number of viewers in Bangladesh too, and influenced many people concerned in speaking up over the similar social menaces here.

During the thirteen week show, the programme had been a talk of the two neighbouring countries.

In Bangladesh, though straight-forward programmes are not aired, most TV channels are running regular special and investigative reports.

Following his show, Rajasthan government promised to set up fast track courts to resolve pending female foeticide cases in the state. Aamir was also invited to parliament to discuss the issue of FDI in pharmaceuticals, adds the website.

Aamir also becomes the first male Indian actor to have made it on the Time cover. Earlier, two other people — Parveen Babi in 1976 and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2003 — were featured on the Time cover, says Zeenews.com website.

During the telecast, Aamir also had to face the ire of certain communities, the Indian Medical Association and a Khap of Haryana being examples of the same.

The TV show helped in setting up fast-track courts in the country to deal with the issues he had taken up. The superstar also met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in order to discuss the issue of manual scavenging.
