Now we see the Ashiyan Group campaigning thoroughly for its mega project ‘Ashiyan City’ near Dhaka airport raises the eyebrows of people who know that this is not a ‘valid one’, though it is in papers.

The firm, a member of realtors’ group REHAB, is advertising vastly on the top selling newspapers, including Prothom Alo. However, the largest selling English newspaper The Daily Star has refrained from publishing its commercials.

Well, here’s the clue; Star ran a report on its Oct 6 issue revealing the mega scam of the government’s public works ministry and real estate regulator RAJUK in approving five big projects on the eastern side of Dhaka.

Ashiyan City is one of those schemes which have in their project area government lands, and also destroying wetlands, croplands and homesteads.

The High Court last June declared 77 projects, ongoing and proposed, illegal.

But the government committee on this issue led by the state minister and significantly participated by the RAJUK chairman approved five projects which are among the 77.

Ashiyan City which got the approval for its 43 acre land in late September has in its occupied area government lands (of Bhawal estate and upazila parishad).

The four other projects are: BDDL Notundhara, United City, Swarnali Abashan and Green Model Town. All of them have occupied government lands and those vested properties under their proposed areas.

And the most alarming incident is the government is likely to give nod to the biggest land grabber of the country anytime soon–Bashundhara Presidential Area of East West Property Development!

This is when the evils join hands, for money. And the people, both those rich and middleclass, are going to be tricked and cheated for purchasing land at those projects.

Boycott these profitmonger businesses and such government employees and people’s representatives.

Wage movement against them to ensure rule of law!
