Who is Bacchu Razakar?
Born on March 5, 1947, this former Jamaat member (rokan) was a madrasa student. He took admission in Faridpur Rajendra College in 1970 but discontinued in 1971. He was involved with Islami Chhatra Sangha and was a close associate of Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, then the president of the pro-Jamaat student body.

Later he was made in-charge of the district’s Razakar Bahini and later became commander of Al-Badr Bahini.

Bacchu Razakar was arrested in 1972 but could not be tried due to lack of evidence.

He was expelled from Jamaat for violating discipline in 1992.

He was chairman of Masjid Council, a non-govt org, founding general secretary of Council for Interfaith Harmony, country representative of Islami Fiqah Academy of Jeddah and editor of monthly Jiggasa.

He took part in a programme of ATN Bangla but was later removed. He was however the regular anchor of Ajker Jiggasa on NTV as an Islamic cleric.

UPDATE Jan 25: The US and the UK have reacted very critically regarding the trial stressing on the transparency of the future trials, apparently advocating for the top Jamaat leaders and Saka Chowdhury. The BBC, AFP, AP have also tried to give a grim picture of the trial process and questioning its neutrality.
