You’ve set up the export-oriented factory on the first floor of a two-storey building in the congested Beribandh area of Mohammadpur with garages and a backery on the ground floor, you’ve given narrow space for movement, you don’t have any fire fighting equipment at the workplace, you don’t have efficient security guards and officials who would help come out safely and open the gates at the right time to save lives of the workers and others, and calling the fire service & police while trying to stop the fire spread. And the most visible reason for putting you on trial is “you didn’t learn anything from Tazreen Fire that killed over 120 workers due to the same reasons you have, and you’ve proved your courage by killing seven poor workers within two months of the deadliest fire in industries”.

You export men’s trousers and jackets, you’re earning dollars as profits but you can’t ensure a safe workplace for your employees! You can’t spend a penny for the upgradation of the factory? How have you been operating without being a member of the BGMEA? Why the government agencies didn’t sue you earlier for operating such a vulnerable garment factory in that area? Do you regularly bribe officials concerned? May be this is why no case has yet been filed against the owner of the factory and ita officials; only an investigation committee has been formed by fire service!

Where’s the owner? Why he’s moving free? Who will arrest him & when? Why there’s low media coverage on the compliance issue?

How many bodies do you need to ring the red alert?

UPDATE JAN 27: The most shocking thing happened last night was that six bodies were handed over to the families without administering autopsy while writing “death from cardiac arrest” in the death certificates. The doctor who prepared the certificates however told The Daily Star that the victims bore injury marks (from stampede) and smoke! All these manipulation — a crime — took place in presence of the LGRD state minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, also the Mohammadpur MP.

Father of a victim filed a murder case against the owner last night while police say three from the owners’ side have been sued but didn’t give media the names.

A demonstration has been called for Monday in front of BGMEA Building at Karwan Bazar.
