- The protestors, educational institutions, businesses and transport owners-workers have vowed to RESIST today’s shutdown when the whole country will WEAR BLACK BADGE.
- Paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) deployed in the capital to aid police.
- Jamaat-funded Islami Bank vice-president Shahidul Islam has been arrested for his alleged involvement in creating anarchy.
- International Crimes Tribunals Act (amendment) 2013 was passed Sunday, four days after the bill was placed in parliament by the law minister upon protests at SHAHBAGH and elsewhere by pro-liberation people. The changes would have retrospective effect from July 14, 2009. Now it’ll allow the prosecution, which is representing the victims of 1971 Liberation War, will be able to appeal against a verdict given by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 and -2. Earlier, this privilege was enjoyed only by the defence and the prosecution could appeal only against an acquittal.
- During its passage as law, Rashed Khan Menon MP proposed an amendment to allow the court trying groups like RAZAKARS, AL-BADR, AL-SHAMS, ISLAMI CHHATRA SHANGHA, alongside individuals for GENOCIDE, RAPE, ARSON & LOOT. It was accepted with immense support by the Speaker and the MPs. This provision, however, seems incomplete since it doesn’t say anything about the mode of punishment which means the government might have to revise the law again in future before trying JAMAAT — TO BREAK THE TABOO OF IMPUNITY. The tribunal in its two verdicts has already mentioned JAMAAT for its involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971. But it didn’t give any direction as to what and how measures could be taken against the radical Islamist party, which is reportedly funded by the Pakistani ISI, and financiers mainly in Saudi Arabia, the UK, the US and Canada.
- The parliament also condemned the MURDER OF RAZIB. He was buried in his village home at Syedpur of Gazipur.
- Law minister Shafique Ahmed said Jamaat did not believe in the rule of law. “This is a party of terrorists. The need to ban this party in line with the Constitution has arisen. The government is working to ban this party.” He said a writ petition was also filed in 2009 to for banning Jamaat. “The government believes that those who believe in militancy but not in rule of law does not have the right to be in politics.”
- At 10 of Sunday morning, children of all schools sang the National Anthem in chorus in front of the National Flag vowing to punish the WAR CRIMINALS.
- Protestors in the capital’s Shahbagh had to undergo drizzling to heavy shower during the daytime as they’re OCCUPYING the intersection. They didn’t leave the place but kept sitting there determined and chanting slogans. The coordinators said passage of the law was their first victory towards JUSTICE.
- REMINDER:
The protestors demand:
* Ensure DEATH PENALTY of ABDUL QUADER MOLLAH;
* DEATH PENALTY for ALL the other war criminals;
* BAN JAMAAT;
* Also try those who were earlier released in the middle of trial for war crimes;
* Boycott Jamaati products-services;
* Arrest and punish the Jamaat-Shibir leaders & activists who have been creating anarchy to stop the tribunal activities…
More issues might come, but not from this stage, which will ONLY raise voice on WAR CRIMES.
