Hats off to the Bangladesh Facebook users; you are doing something great! Since February 21, 2015, I had been frustrated to see no development in the sexual assaults of at least three girls on the Amar Ekushey Book Fair premises at Suhrawardy Udyan gate on Dhaka University campus. Only the Dhaka Tribune published photos of the rapists on its February 22 issue and shared from its Facebook page.
Like others, I also shared the photos on different groups and pages until yesterday, but to no avail. It made me happy this evening when a friend mentioned me in a comment of the post that said one of the rapists was identified as Latif Roni, student of Titumir College, Dhaka. He was a student of English department’s 2008-09 batch. Special thanks to S M Aminul Wrubel for bringing this up on Desperately Seeking – Dhaka (DSD), the active secret group that volunteers people’s needs. Seeing the developments, Chowdhury Shaheb of Moja losss? (a popular fun page that has over .53 million followers), Bangladesim and some other pages carried the information on their pages to catch the rapist and his friends. But the police are yet to take any action, apparently due to absence of the victims.
Update: A third photo of the incident has been found!
