The alarming rise in the incidents of child rape, gang rape, and even rape of daughters by their fathers in Bangladesh and many other countries will shock any conscious person in any part of the world. On the other hand, the sex perverts will be inspired—thanks to the lax enforcement of laws and the rise of child pornography.

Here are some incidents of “father rapes daughter” based on news reports from 35 countries. Almost all the victims are minors.

# Bangladesh:

This blog was posted in 2015 based on recent data that were very shocking; but now in 2022, it seems that the incidents of rape of a girl child by her father have been a common incident—given that the accused get benefits in rape cases and that society forces girls not to speak up.

Here are some of the recent incidents found in newspapers:

May 12, 2022: A man is arrested for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Kamalnagar Upazila in Lakshmipur.

January 6, 2022: Ibrahim Hossain Parvez, 35, of Fatika village in Hathazari of Chittagong, is arrested for raping his 10th-grade step daughter.

September 3, 2021: In Saltha of Faridpur, a girl, 16, takes poison after being raped by her father.

February 8, 2021: Rickshaw puller Kamal Hossain of the capital’s Badda is given life term imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old daughter twice in 2019.

February 4, 2021: A girl’s father Jubayer Khan, 40, and his son Nasir Uddin, 18, from his second marriage, are arrested for raping the 16-year-old at their rented house in Harinachala area of Konabari in Gazipur for over seven months and impregnating her.

October 19, 2020: Md Shahidul Islam, 36, is arrested for repeatedly raping his daughter, 14, from Uttar Harintana area of Khulna municipality.

June 16, 2020: Restaurant worker Rezaul Islam is arrested for raping his 11-year-old step daughter in Kalahata area of Kaliganj in Jhenaidah.

January 16, 2020: A poultry shop worker is arrested for allowing his employer to rape his daughter on multiple occasions in the capital’s Kamrangirchar as he failed to repay a loan of Tk6,000.

October 30, 2019: Muslim Mia, 50, is arrested for raping his daughter for over a year at South Lakkhankhola of Bandar Upazila in Narayanganj.

February 25, 2019: Hanif, 45, is arrested on charges of raping his daughter, 11, in Jalkuri Paschimpara area of Shiddhirganj in Narayanganj.

February 13, 2019: A man is arrested for raping an eight-year-old at Moghbazar T&T Colony with the help of her mother, says the case filed by the father, who is a driver by profession.

Events before 2016 across the world 

On May 9, 2016, a Gaibandha tribunal sentenced Khaja Mia, 45, of Kishamat Durgapur under Sadulyapur upazila to life-term imprisonment and fined Tk50,000 for raping his daughter on October 15, 2008. Brother of the victim filed the case.

On May 5, 2016, police arrested Nurunnabi, 55, for raping his 13-year-old step daughter in Shalbon area of Khagrachhari.

On May 3, 2016, police arrested Khorshedul Alam for raping and impregnating his mentally-challenged daughter at Dhorompur village of Bheramara in Kushtia.

Saiful Islam, 40, is arrested for raping his step-daughter, 14, on March 14, 2016 at Keraniganj in Dhaka.

Police arrested Nazrul Islam, 40, on February 12, 2016 for raping and impregnating his 14-year-old step daughter in Mithapukur of Rangpur.

Police arrested Kesmat Ali, 37, on January 21, 2016 for raping his daughter, 12, at Roumari in Kurigram.

In August 2015, a girl, 15, sued her father for repeated rape by Maulana Abu Bakkar Siddique, the acting super of Chakdhala Mohiuchhunnah Dakhil Madrasa in Naikkhyangchhari upazila of Bandarban.

Mother of a girl, 15, sued her husband Abdul Hakim on October 20, 2015 for raping her repeatedly. Madhupur police arrested the culprit.

Drug addict Monir, 38, was arrested on May 29, 2015 for raping his 12-year-old daughter for three months and abortion at Rampura.

Ten-year-old girl was raped by her father Nurul Alam at Rajapalong of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar on May 11, 2015.

Shamim Reza, 39, of Raiganj, Sirajganj was arrested on May 8, 2015 for raping his 13-year-old daughter for several months.

On August 1, 2014, police arrested Md Azam Khan from Demra of Rupganj for raping his step daughter.

Md Farhad Hossain was given life-term imprisonment in Gazipur on April 9, 2014 for raping his 19-year-old daughter several times.

A 38-year-old father was caught by house owner and locals for raping his daughter, 13, for five-six months at Bhatpara, Savar on January 28, 2014. She wanted to commit suicide the previous day.

Daughter of Bulbul Jal Das filed a complaint with local administration for repeated rape by her father at Chokoria of Cox’s Bazar in August 2013.

# Afghanistan:

In September 2015, a Jawzjan father was arrested over the rape of his 15-year-old daughter. She is now pregnant as a result of the rape.

In June, Abdul Halim was sentenced to death for raping his daughter for more than 10 years, during which she went through multiple pregnancies and abortions. She says that her father used a variety of drugs which she later learned were attempts at contraception. Yet, she gave birth to two children.

# Pakistan:

1. In July 2015, a father named Ashraf was arrested in Pasrur on charges of raping his 16-year-old daughter who said the man had been raping her forcibly for the last two years.
2. In January, imam of a mosque was accused of rape and murder of a five-year-old boy. His body was found hanging at the staircase of Masjid Baitul Mukarram in Lahore.
3. In November 2013, a girl was poisoned by her brother after she had been raped by her father in Gujrat, Lahore.
4. In September 2012, retired army personnel Saeed Akhtar, 50, was accused by his daughter of raping her in Islamabad while holding a sharp-edged knife over her throat.
5. In the same month in 2012, father Abdul Rehman was sued for raping her 11-year-old step daughter.
6. In July 2012, the 16-year-old daughter of Muhammad Shabbir in Faisalabad of Punjab shot and killed her father for scolding her for having a relationship with a boy.
7. In July 2011, Khalid Amin was sentenced to death by a Lahore court for raping his 11-year-old daughter for a month in 2009.

# India: Like in the US, the UK and Pakistan, rape of girls by their fathers has been commonplace in India.

1. In August 2015, a Delhi court jailed a father, 38, for life for gang-raping his nine-year-old daughter. The man got the girl drunk and attacked her with a friend at a park. His accomplice was handed a 12-year prison term.
2. In August 2015, a Delhi court sent a man, 45, to seven years in jail for raping his minor daughter in 2011 and trying to kill her when she disclosed the fact to others. The court also sent the man’s 60-year-old brother to jail for seven years for attempting to kill the 16-year-old girl.
3. In August, a Mizoram court sentenced a 38-year-old man to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old daughter repeatedly over a year and cutting off her right forefinger.
4. In August, a man, 48, was arrested for raping his 22-year-old daughter for the past 16 years and impregnating her twice. The father was arrested along with the victim’s mother from Parli city, Maharashtra.
5. In July, a 62-year-old retired Rajasthan state government employee was arrested after his five daughters, all married now, levelled several serious charges of sexual exploitation, molestation and rape against him. Babu Lal Dhakar, former supervisor with the state agriculture department, raped them when they were school girls. Dhakar used to first show pornographic material to his daughters and then rape them.
6. In May, Meghawat Kamal, 38, tried to mislead police by lying that some unidentified people attacked him, kidnapped his 15-year-old daughter, gang-raped and murdered her. He even inflicted an injury on his forehead to convince police. The incident occurred on May 21 night near Ijrachittampalli near Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district, in Hyderabad.

8. In April 2015, a Rajkot court convicted Keshu Timbadiya, 40, a farmer in the district, for repeatedly raping his 16-year-old daughter over one-and-a-half years before January, 2011 and making the minor pregnant.

# Nepal:

1. In April, a 40-year-old man was caught by his wife while raping eight-year-old daughter in Bhadrapur, Jhapa.
2. In January, Prakash Bahadur Karki of Panauti, Kavre was slapped with 18-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200,000 on the charge of repeatedly raping his daughter, now 19. The victim also revealed that she was frequently raped by her grandfather, 72-year-old Indra Bahadur Karki, when she was 10 years old.

# Saudi Arabia:

1. A court in August 2015 dropped the charge of sexual assault against the father of Luma, the five-year-old daughter he had beaten to death. The decision was taken after no trace of semen was found on her body. The father, cleric Fayhan al-Ghamdi, was sentenced to eight years in prison and 600 lashes in October 2013.
2. In July, the General Court in Jeddah sentenced a man convicted of raping his daughter to 13 years in jail. The 22-year-old woman said her father raped her over a period of five years. The victim added that her father beat her and threatened her with expulsion from the home if she told her mother or any family member.

# Australia:

1. In September, 2015, Jayne Gersbach, 32, in a statement of claim filed with the NSW Supreme Court, described a series of horrific alleged sexual assaults inflicted on her by her father, Rodney Gersbach, in Sydney for 15 years.
2. Government staff knew a ward of the state was being raped by her father but continued to allow him access to her, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse heard in August. The woman was a ward of the state from the age of seven but continued to live at home on and off. She told the inquiry her father was an unpredictable and violent alcoholic and her home life was abusive and volatile. She said her father first raped her in 1977 when she was 13.
3. In July this year, a Brisbane court sentenced a man, 35, to four months behind bars for raping his stepdaughter while on an overnight trip to Mt Tamborine in July 2011. The man’s offending was discovered after the girl asked her mother about what rape was two years later. As she explained it to her and the girl said that is what her dad did to her while they were away at Mt Tamborine.
4. A girl was repeatedly raped by eight men, including her father, for two years from the age of 11 until the intervention by police and child protection services earlier in 2015. The last of the men were arrested in late July by the Western Australian police. They are facing 503 charges including 383 related to filming or recording the girl. The girl’s father is facing 228 of the charges, including 172 child abuse charges, six counts of sexual servitude, and 16 counts of rape. He is scheduled to appear in Perth magistrate’s court in August.
5. In March, a 54-year-old unemployed man in Sydney raped his 12-year-old daughter in front of her mother after a heated argument. The father migrated from Vietnam more than a decade ago.

# New Zealand:

1. In July 2015, a Hamilton father, 47, who photographed and videotaped himself sexually abusing his daughters before uploading the footage to a child exploitation website, was sentenced to almost 16 years in jail. He raped the daughters two to three times a week between 2006 and 2008, when they were aged between 12 and 18 years old. Much of that material was then uploaded to child porn websites. Two other victims were the daughters of his friends, who were under the age of 12.
2. In November 2014, the Kaikohe District Court sentenced Dick Whakaaropai Rihari, 70, to six years and nine months jail for 15 historical crimes of rape, sexual assault and grievous bodily harm meted out to a daughter, son and stepdaughter in the 1970s and 1980s.

# Fiji: In June 2015, a Lautoka man, 37, was jailed for 16 years for raping his two daughters for nine years committed during the period from January 15, 2006 to February 22, 2015.

# Tonga: In September, police arrested a 36-year-old father for raping his four-year-old daughter in Magudu trust.

# Vanutu: In June, a father, who looks to be in his late 20s was charged with raping his three-year-old daughter in Port Vila.

# Zimbabwe:

1. In June 2015, a 47-year-old Harare man appeared before the court charged with raping his two daughters aged 13 and 15 years.
2. In May, a man, 45, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his three-year-old daughter in December last year.
3. In May, a man was arrested in Binga for raping his daughter, 20, from 2013.

# Kenya:

1. In August 2015, a 51-year-old man was released on a bond after he pleaded not guilty to rape charges. He was accused of raping his 15-year-old daughter and impregnating her.
2. In July, a 40-year-old man raped his seven-year-old daughter after giving her sleeping pills at Hindi in Lamu County.
3. In March, David Chege Waweru, 44, was sentenced to 75 years in jail after he was found guilty of defiling his 12-year-old daughter and deliberately infecting her with HIV at their home in Njoro, Nakuru County in 2013.
4. In August 2014, a father of six from Kitui was jailed for 20 years for raping his 13-year-old daughter in 2011. He accused his wife of cheating on him.
5. In March 2014, a father from Nairobi was sentenced to life in prison for raping his 10-year-old girl in 2012.

# Taiwan: A father, 43, from Hsinchu was arrested in May for the repeated rape of his 13-year-old daughter who, unable to deal with the trauma, attempted suicide. He even sexually assaulted the girl at the hospital by touching her breasts and genitals, but got arrested the same night. The girl was raised by her father for six years after her mother left the house following their divorce. Since June this year, the man started using violence on his daughter each time he would get drunk. He often forced her to perform oral sex and have sex with him.

# Hong Kong: A man, 55, pleaded guilty to incest in the High Court in February 2015 after he raped and impregnated his daughter, who was 17 years old last year. His daughter later gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The man had divorced the teenager’s mother in 2012 after 17 years of marriage and had been taking care of his daughter ever since his ex-wife moved out. She alerted the authorities after discovering her daughter pregnant in April last year.

# Philippines: In June 2015, a 45-year-old man was indicted for raping his 12-year-old daughter in Cebu City.

# Thailand:

1. In April 2015, a construction worker, 46, was charged with repeatedly raping his stepdaughter over 12 years and fathering two children by her, with the consent of her mother who was also arrested.
2. In March, a woman requested the police to arrest her husband after he had raped his daughter, now 15, for the last five years. The man confessed that he had raped his daughter because he was always drunk and couldn’t control himself. His wife had tried to stop him but he would hit her every time.
3. In July 2013, a nine-year-old said she had been raped several times by her father’s friend, 47, but the father took no action.
4. In February 2013, a 41-year-old Phitsanulok man was arrested for sexually abusing his 20-year-old daughter for several years. She finally reported the abuse to her mother, after she got injured when her father beat her with a stick for resisting his latest assault attempt.
5. In August 2012, a 16-year-old girl ran away from home in Angthong after being sexually assaulted by her father for more than four years.

# Indonesia: In October 2014, a father confessed to raping his 13-year-old daughter at least 60 times over the past five years. She said the first rape happened in 2008 in their house in Ciracas, East Jakarta, when her mother was not at home.

# Malaysia:

1. In June 2015, a 43-year-old father was sentenced to 21 years in jail and ordered to be given 24 strokes of cane for raping his 12-year-old daughter more than 14 times from November 21 last year until January this year at Kampung Linayukan in Tongod. The victim was first raped on November 20, 2014. She was molested more than 13 times.
2. In May, the Court of Appeal acquitted a man who was sentenced to 42 years in jail, 11 strokes of the cane and a fine of RM40,000 in 2013 for raping his 15-year-old daughter and fathering her son.
3. In April, a six-year-old girl in Johor was raped by her father while her mother was away from home.
4. In December 2014, it was found that a 34-year-old unemployed man accused of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter for nearly a year also sodomised his four-year-old daughter in Petaling Jaya.

# Jordan: A Jordanian man was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his daughter before murdering her and their unborn child. According to Jordanian news source Graca News, the 48-year-old carpenter first started raping his daughter when she was 15. The daughter told her mother about the assault, but because of the man’s history of violence against the family, she did not confront her husband, according to the report. When the man learnt his wife knew he was his daughter’s rapist, he beat her and threatened to divorce her if she spoke about the abuse.

# UK:

1. In September 2015, a Huddersfield father, 48, has been sentenced to 16 years in jail after a jury found him guilty of child cruelty, assault, two offences of rape and two indecent assault. The victim was only five when her nightmare ordeal began.
2. In August, a vile father has been convicted of raping his five-year-old daughter, and later offering a visitor the opportunity to rape her. The dad, now aged 83, made the girl play Blind Man’s Bluff before raping her in an attack dating back 40 years.
3. In August, 77-year-old Colin Goss was sentenced to 18 years in prison by Plymouth Crown Court for rape and assault of his daughter, now 34, since she was four.
4. In June, Scotish firefighter John McGinn, 56, was convicted for torture and rape of his nine-year-old daughter 21 years back.
5. In May, a 50-year-old man from Tipperary, Ireland who sexually abused and raped his three daughters over 18 years was jailed for 17 years.
6. In May, 59-year-old Liam Adams, the brother of Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams, lost an appeal against his convictions and sentence for raping and abusing his daughter. He was jailed for 16 years in 2013. The abuse started when she was just four years old and was committed over six years between 1977 and 1983.
7. In April, a mother-of-two who was abused by her father, 61, throughout her childhood spoke out after he was jailed for 22 years, in 2013. Now 39, the woman is from Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Her abuse began at the age of seven.
8. In January, a woman, 47, from Sunderland spoke out about her ordeal to encourage other victims to prosecute their abusers. She was raped by her father Oliver Garside, now 68, while she was a teenager but kept the abuse secret for nearly 30 years. Garside, who claimed that he could not afford a prostitute, was jailed for eight years in prison in 2014.
9. In September 2014, Sarah Smith, 25, won £160,000 compensation from Bradford City council after it admitted breach of duty in failing to remove her from the family home. They failed, again and again, to keep Sarah from the clutches of her evil dad. He raped her more than 1,000 times from the age of 10 during seven years of abuse and got her pregnant twice. Now she finds it hard to bond with a son born from rape by her father.
10. In June 2013, an 18-year-old girl accused her father, from East London, of gang-raping her along with his friends with her hands tied and blindfolded. The girl said the abuse began when she was 10 and continued until 16.

# US:

1. In June 2015, a 29-year-old man was arrested for raping his seven-year-old daughter in KwaNqetho, Hillcrest of Pennsylvania when the mother was outside home.
2. In April, a Pennsylvania woman convicted of helping her husband rape her teenage daughter in 2013 was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison.
3. In March, Eric Devon Masters, 28, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for raping his daughter, now four, when she was between 1 ½ and 3. Masters videotaped the abuse and shared it via the Internet, which is how he came to the attention of the FBI.
4. In February, a jury in Vernon, California found a man guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter over four years, starting when she was just 12 years old.
5. Biological parents Cody Beemer and Felicia Beemer were charged this year for raping their one-year-old daughter Trumbull County Children Services, Ohio in 2011.
6. In January, a 16-year-old sick girl was raped by her father, 47, at a hospital toilet in Texas.
7. In December 2014, 38-year-old Hiawatha Robinson of Alabama was arrested for killing his daughter, Hiawayi Robinson, 8, after rape.
8. In November, Georgia police arrested a father, 44, and his daughter, 23, for incest, and starving to death his 15-month-old infant child.
9. In November, Pascal Kaufmann, 19, was arrested for rape and murder of his three-year-old stepdaughter in Florida. Kaufmann moved to the US from Germany in August and Wed Brame’s mother about a week before the murder.
10. In September 2014, Kevin W. Church Sr., 55, who had been a chaplain in the US Army, pleaded guilty of raping his daughter, then 12, in 1991 at Georgia. The girl reported the incident after 20 years.
11. Steve Smith, 46, was executed by lethal injection in May 2013, for rape and murder of the six-month-old daughter of his girlfriend in 1998 in Mansfield in northern Ohio.

# Israel:

1. In May 2015, police arrested a 54-year-old man in the Haredi town of Kiryat Ye’arim (also known as Telshe-Stone and Telz-Stone) for raping three of his daughters for years. The girls are now 21, 17, and 14 years old. The father claimed the acts were consensual.
2. In September 2014, the Supreme Court in Jerusalem upheld the 12-year sentence of a father, now 75, who was found guilty of raping his daughter, now 38, during her age between 3 and 11.

# Norway:

1. In March 2015, a 32-year-old man admitted to raping his two-month-old son and then distributing the film to an online paedophile network.
2. In July 2014, a 50-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his daughter and forcing her to marry another man. She was sexually assaulted when she was 13 years old and raped from when she was 15 over five years.

# Germany: In September 2011, a 69-year-old man was charged with nearly 500 counts of rape after it emerged he fathered three children with his daughter for 34 years at the family’s home in Bavaria. The man is accused of beating his daughter into submission and first raping her when she was 12 or 13.

# Paraguay: In August 2015, an 11-year-old girl was denied an abortion after allegedly being raped by her stepfather Gilberto Benitez Zárate, 42, gave birth to a healthy baby girl in Asunción.

# Colombia: In April 2015, Santander, 62, of Flores Blancas was arrested for raping his 11 daughters, three of whom now have children by him as a result. The incidents took place between 2002 and 2005.

# South Africa:

1. On September 14, 2015, a 37-year-old man from Gauteng was sentenced to life in prison for raping his two young daughters, who were six and nine when the offences took place in 2013.
2. On September 5, a KwaZulu-Natal court in Durban sentenced a 54-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of his nine-year-old daughter. The mother of the victim realised that her child was abused by her father since she was seven years old and she reported the matter to the police in 2014.
3. A Cape Town Metro Police constable was arrested for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter in Grabouw.
4. In October 2014, a father, 28, was jailed for 18 years for raping his 7-year-old daughter in New Germany of Johannesburg between 2013 and 2014.
5. In April 2013, a Johannesburg father raped his two-year-old daughter, believing that it would cure his HIV.

# Nigeria:

1. In early September 2015, Mohammed Ahmed, 34, was arrested for raping his 14 year- old daughter in Osogbo from April.
2. In August 2015, police in Lagos arrested Ajiboye Oluwaseyi, 37, for raping his two daughters ─ a six-year-old and a four-year-old ─ and his stepdaughter, 15, in the Lekki area of the state.
3. In July 15, retired soldier Alabi Ibrahim, 63, of Isabo, Abeokuta, was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping and infecting his 10-year-old step-daughter with the HIV in 2012.
4. In July, a father was arrested for raping his minor daughter at Zuba of Abuja.
5. In June, 49-year-old Waheed Adeboye was arrested for raping his 14-year-old daughter in Adamo, Ikorodu of Lagos.
6. In June, police arrested a man who raped his two under-aged biological daughters and two of his nieces, all between 14 and 17 years, at Moniya in Akinyele.
7. In April, a 47-year-old man, Solomon Ojo, had to face a court in Ota, Ogun State for raping his daughter in 2013.
8. In February, Abubakar Magaji, 45, of Liman Kagum in Bauchi was arrested for raping his 11-year-old daughter several times. He confessed he was tempted by the devil.
9. In June 2014, Samuel Uba, 65, in Kalabari Beach, Imo State was arrested for repeatedly raping his 17-year-old daughter and impregnating her. The trouble started in 2012 after her father’s second wife died.

# Ghana: In August 2015, Adeboye Waheed, 45, was arrested by Lagos state for raping his 14-year-old daughter to check her virginity status.

# Argentina: In May 2015, two judges decided that a soccer coach who raped a 6-year-old boy shouldn’t be held entirely responsible because the child had already been traumatized by previous alleged abuse—and because he supposedly showed “homosexual tendencies.”

# Sri Lanka:

1. In June 2015, a 41-year-old father was arrested in Wanathawilluwa for raping his 11-year-old daughter and offering her to his friend for sex. He raped the girl occasionally for about a month. His friend, 65, raped the girl about two years ago.
2. The same month, a father, 32, was arrested for rape and impregnation of a 13-year-old daughter In Galamuna.

# UAE: In April 2014, a UAE appeal court slashed the 25-year jail sentence of a father, 48, to three years. He was convicted of raping his daughter, 18, twice.

# Cyprus:

1. In August 2015, a 40-year-old unemployed Nicosia man was put on trial for raping his daughter at the age of 12 – she is now 16 years old.
2. In January 2014, a 53-year-old foster father raped his 18-year-old daughter in Limassol, Cyprus.

# Brazil: In July 2014, a 40-year-old father was accused of raping and impregnating his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
