It now seems inevitable that the opposition lords won’t stop until the trial of the identified war criminals is scrapped and the JAMAAT-BNP leaders released. The Jamaat-Shibir has been fighting on the issue against the state for the last one year, and recently the BNP led by KHALEDA ZIA has joined them on the streets and defending them at discussions. At least today, the BNP took to the streets with Jamaat-Shibir cadres when four people were killed in Bogra and one police conatable died following clashes in Jessore. They’ve shown their muscles today!
Well, leaders from top to bottom of the two allies have recently been warning the govt of dire consequences; and we can witness what they wanted to show.
Even though the police were soft in Dhaka clash two days back, they backfired today in Dhaka and elsewhere, also in Bogra. The aggressive attitude follows strong pressure from the PM, who today at a Panchagarh meeting said none could stop the trial.
Yeh, verdict in the cases against Jamaat cleric Delwar Hossain Sayedee and assistant secy gen Abdul Quader Mollah is due and could be delivered anyday. The tribunal has already sentenced expelled Jamaat member Bacchu Razakar or Abul Kalam Azad to death.
Following the Skype Scandal, it’s been an open secret that the govt wants to hang the accused immediately or precisely, ASAP. It’s also the demand of the majority people who have elected the Awami League-backed to power.
But the administration under the AL govt is now pro-opposition, at least these days, when the AL top-brass has indulged in massive corruption and autocracy — a plus point for the opposition to drum up support in their favour even though they’ve become violent against police, people and vehicles.
