BNP’s friend and top war criminal-led Jamaat-e-Islami with its striking force Chhatra Shibir have been in engaged a non-stop clash with the law enforcers to stop the war crimes trials and bring out their leaders including Sayedee out of jail.

To compel the govt to do so, they’re showing their muscle with the notorious supporters who are leading mass attackers, most of who are irregular political activists and women-children belonged to the families supporting Sayedee. The masterminds of these attacks are working at different levels of the country and beyond — financiers of Jamaat-BNP, million dollar lobbyists, senior political leaders and the technically expert Shibir operatives.

The mass attacks on police with handbombs, sharp weapons, bricks and sticks are resisted and police are firing on them — an act supported by the pro-liberation supporters and criticised by the opposition as “genocide”. at least 20 people including three women and a child were killed Sunday, the first day of a three-day shutdown. At least 63 people have died since Jamaat-Shibir activists went on the rampage on Thursday after a war crimes tribunal sentenced Sayedee to death.

I don’t welcome “killings”, but regarding this issue I’m for shooting the miscreants as they’re supporting the war criminals who betrayed and opposed the birth of Bangladesh and killed-raped-looted Bangladeshis alongside the Pakistan army as its associate force. They couldn’t be tried before 2009, and three verdicts have been given. Several other top leaders of Jamaat including its chief Nizami and former chief Ghulam Azam are under trial.

Day’s happenings from newspapers:

* Army had to be deployed for four hours to protect the Shahjahanpur Police Station in Bogra Sunday afternoon following fierce clashes between the police and attackers belonging to Jamaat and BNP. The culprits assembled locals through repeated announcements over loudspeakers that “Sayedee’s face was seen on the moon and it’s your holy duty to save him; otherwise, we all will go to hell”. Around 4 in the morning, they launched into attacks on police in different upazilas. Jamaat men used women and children as a human shield during the attacks on law enforcers.

* Border Guard Bangladesh personnel were deployed in the capital around 8:00pm to ward off violence.

* Jamaat-Shibir men yesterday gauged out one eye of a policeman and hacked him indiscriminately to death at Sanatanpur Police Camp under Harinakundo upazila in Jhinaidah. With the murder of constable Omar Faruque, the death toll of law enforcers rose to six in a countrywide reign of terror that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir unleashed on Thursday. Earlier, four policemen were killed in Gaibandha and one in Chittagong, Additional Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque told The Daily Star last night.

* The government yesterday appealed to the Supreme Court seeking death penalty to Abdul Quader Mollah for each of the six charges he faced at the International Crimes Tribunal-2. The attorney general’s office submitted the 484-page appeal on behalf of the government challenging the verdict. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star that his office would today file an application with the chamber judge of the Appellate Division for fixing a date for a hearing on the appeal.

* The High Court yesterday directed the government to protect until further orders the minority communities and places of worships attacked allegedly by activists of Jamaat and BNP in Noakhali on Thursday. It also asked the authorities concerned to repair the houses and places of worships and to bring those back to their previous condition. A report on the compliance of the directives has to be submitted in the court in 10 days. The court passed the rule on the government following a report published in The Daily Star on March 2 with the headline “Attacks on Noakhali Hindus: Victims feel insecure.” Witnesses said Shibir activists Saddam and Alauddin and BNP activists Khalil and Ibrahim led the attacks. The HC directives came in tandem with fresh attacks on minority establishments reported from Munshiganj, Dinajpur and Barisal yesterday. The opposition party men torched, vandalised and looted at least one temple and many houses at Begumganj of the district, sending the minorities into a panic, the report says. Jamaat-Shibir men also damaged six temples, torched 36 houses and vandalised 40 other houses after looting those at Alampur and Aladin Nagar villages in Rajganj.

* The ruling alliance MPs yesterday blasted Jamaat-BNP for creating anarchy and urged the govt to ban Jamaat immediately through an executive order.

* British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Gibson Sunday deplored the cruel and unwarranted attacks on places of worship and private property in Bangladesh. In a statement, he expressed his sadness over the violence and the number of senseless and unnecessary deaths that have taken place across Bangladesh over the past few days. He called for all parties to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through constructive and peaceful dialogue.

* Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special aide Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif Sunday urged the law enforcers to take stringent actions against the activists of Jamaat-Shibir and claimed that the violence would come to an end within a day or two. He said, ”

dismissed possibilities of holding talks with those who are instigating the Jamaat-Shibir men to create anarchy across the country.

* The next programmes of Projonmo Chattar are: anti-hartal procession at 10am from Shahbagh today; Mass Rallies at Jatrabari at 3pm tomorrow and at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 7; Rally for women at Shahbagh in the afternoon on March 7, and a Mass Rally at Chuknagar–a killing ground in Khulna–at 3pm on March 8.

মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ও শাহবাগের চেতনা নিয়ে আমরা এগিয়ে চলেছি। পথে-ইন্টারনেটে আমরা প্রতিবাদ করছি জামায়াত-শিবির আর তাদের দোসরদের জঘন্য আচরনের বিরুদ্ধে; রাস্তায়-থানায় আইনশৃংখলা বাহিনী হামলার শিকার হচ্ছে এসব জানোয়ারদের; হিন্দু-বৌদ্ধদের বাড়ি-দোকান ও মন্দির ভেঙে পুড়িয়ে দেয়া হচ্ছে; যানবাহন চলাচলে বাধা দিয়ে ভেঙে আগুন দেয়া হচ্ছে; দেশটাকে অকার্যকর প্রমান করে সরকারকে এরা বাধ্য করতে চায় যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচার বন্ধ করতে, জামায়াতের শীর্ষ নেতা যারা চিহ্নিত যুদ্ধাপরাধী তাদের মুক্তি দাবী করে চলেছে এইসব রাজাকারের বাচ্চারা।

শাহবাগের সুর পৌঁছে গেছে ঢাকা ছাড়িয়ে দেশের আনাচে-কানাচে, এমনকি নানা দেশে রাস্তায় নেমে প্রতিবাদ করে বাংলাদেশীরা এই বিচার বন্ধে সকল ষড়যন্ত্র রুখে দিতে; সব রাজাকারের মৃত্যুদন্ড চাই আমরা। এদেরকে আর সহ্য করা হবেনা। এখন আমাদের শক্তি বেশী, এখনই এদের নির্মূল করতে হবে।

এই যুদ্ধে আমরা নিরস্ত্র, কারন আমরা অহিংস জীবনযাপন করি। রাষ্ট্রীয় বাহিনী তার কাজ করছে। তারা যদি ব্যর্থ হয় তবে আমরা জনগন অবশ্যই “যার যা কিছু আছে তাই নিয়ে শত্রুর মোকাবেলা” করবো। কথাটা একজন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তি মুক্তিযুদ্ধের আগে জনগনকে বলেছিলেন। আর বাংলার জনতা সেই যুদ্ধ জয় করেছিল। 

কিন্তু এদের বিচার শেষ হবার আগেই তৎকালীন সরকারপ্রধান শেখ মুজিব নিহত হওয়ায় ছাড়া পেয়ে যায় প্রায় ১২০০০ রাজাকার, আল-বদর-আল-শামস নেতা-কর্মী। সেই মহান কাজটি করে এবুং জামায়াতকে বাংলাদেশে রাজনীতি করার লাইসেন্স দিয়ে বাংলাদেশকে একটা পরাধীন রাষ্ট্রে পরিণত করা হয়। কেউ কেউ লন্ডন-আমেরিকা পালালেও, নাটের গুরু গোলাম আযম থেকে যাতাতার বিশাল দলবল নিয়ে আর দিনকে দিন খামচে ধরে বাংলাদেশের পতাকা, শিকড় ছড়িয়ে দেয় সবখানে যেন কেউ তাদের উৎখাত করতে না পারে।

একটা আধাখেঁচড়া বাংলাদেশে আমার জন্ম হয়। আর তাই ছোটবেলা থেকেই আমি ঘৃনা করি এসব রাজাকারদের যারা মীরজাফরের মত এদেশের মানুষ হয়েও পাকিস্তানের পতাকাতলে যাবার জন্য বাঙালী নিধনযজ্ঞ চালিয়েছিল।

পরবর্তীতে রাজনীতিতে নানা পট-পরিবর্তন হলেও জামায়াতকে বিচারের মুখোমুখি করতে পারেনি কোন সরকার। কিন্তু এবার আর রক্ষা নেই তোদের। এবার তোদের বিচার হবে এদেশে, ফাঁসিও হবে, কিন্তু কবর হবে পাকিস্তানের মাটিতে।

আর সেই বিচার থামাতে গিয়ে এইসব জানোয়ার যদি সরকার ও জনগনের উপর আক্রমন করে তবে তাদের সব কয়টা নেতাকে এক নিমিষে করে মেরে ফেলা উচিত। যারা দেশের প্রচলিত আইন মানবেনা, পাকিস্তানের গুনগান গাইবে, ইসলামের ভুল ব্যাখ্যা দিবে, তারাই যদি সরকার ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষের জনগনকে ভয় দেখায় তাহলে এদের জন্য মায়া কিসের? এদের গুলি করে মেরে ফেলতে বাধা কোথায়?

এদের নৃশংস আক্রমনে যেসব পুলিশ ও আন্দোলনকর্মী ও সাধারন মানুষ মারা যাচ্ছেন ও ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হচ্ছেন তাদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে চাই আমরা, স্বেচ্ছাসেবকের ভূমিকায়। এদের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় খাদ্য-চিকিৎসার ব্যবস্থা করতে ও বাসস্থান তৈরিতে সাহায্য করতে আমরা যার যার অবস্থান থেকে যতটুকু সম্ভব করবো এবং আমাদের সহমর্মীদেরকেও জানাবো আমাদের কর্মতৎপরতা সম্পর্কে।
