There have been 1971-like atrocities carried out by the Jamaat-Shibir, killings-rape-vandalism-looting-arson have been a daily dose they’re presenting the people of Bangladesh and across the world. Not just following the verdict, delivered on Thursday, the opposition parties mainly the Jamaat have been demonstrating against the govt on different issues since June 2009 — six months after the Awami League-led came to power. The main opposition in parliament, BNP’s agenda has been “going to power” while Jamaat-Shibir has been protesting the war crimes trial that began in March 2010.

As the next general elections loom and verdict in three cases handed down, the demonstrations of the opposition parties have turned violent, when they’re demanding that the govt resigns and the international crimes trial proceedings are scrapped, therefore, releasing the top leaders of Jamaat who deliberately campaigned for Pakistan and joined them against Bangladeshis in genocide, rape, arson and looting.

The state is targeted in the attacks carried out by the Jamaat-Shibir fanatics as we see the attackers are swooping on police, chopping or beating them indiscriminately to create panic among the force; vandalising and setting fire to govt establishments and properties to compel the govt stop the trials. Notably, the incidents are taking place in the districts where Jamaatis are prominent — Chittagong, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sylhet, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon. They use mosques and the Imams as dens and promoters. There are around 3,00,000 mosques across the country.

Meanwhile, when the police have started firing on the violent protesters, the fundamentalists have also started changing their style, they began taking women and children with them in the demonstrations. Most people joining those violent protests, led mainly by few Shibir operatives, are ordinary Muslims, uneducated and unprivileged.

Some people including the BNP chief have been protesting the police’s shooting by branding the attitude as genocide against the opposition, but most others support it because they don’t want to tolerate fundamentalist Jamaat-Shibir in politics, business and religious activities. No Muslim, honest and reasonable person can support Jamaat-Shibir, which is the defeated force of 1971 Liberation War.

Can those condemning police action say what should police do when they’re attacked?

And first and last, how dare they launch violent demonstrations against a tribunal while there’s provision for appeal? How dare they challenge the state they’re living in? How dare they dream of lifetime impunity despite being war criminals? HANG THEM ALL…!!!

You Jamaat-Shibir supporters, who are you fighting for — war criminals, fraud Islamists, corrupt and rapists???

Farhad Mazhar, a writer, poet and friend of Sayedee and Jamaat, has the similar view about women, as he resembles them with foods and luxuries. Read his poem:

This Farhad was a communist once upon a time, then turned an Awami dalal and now turned a Jamaat advisor, therefore, writing on the Jamaati newspapers favouring the party’s leaders being tried while saying that “people” are protesting

There is an allegation of tax evasion against him. He was also sued for embezzling Jakat Funds. The cases are underway.

On August 19, 2010, the National Board of Revenue filed the case against Sayedee with the senior judge’s court of Dhaka on charge of evading Tk 56.45 lakh (5.64 million) as income tax from 2005-06 to 2009-10 fiscal year and giving “false information to misguide the NBR”.   

The Islamic Foundation on May 24, 2010 sued Sayedee and former state minister for religion Mosharraf Hossain Shahjahan for embezzling Tk 12,760,000 in zakat funds. The case says the duo embezzled the funds of 2004-2005 financial year by allocating the moneys to organisations of their choice. Former chairman of the Masjid Council for Community, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and former finance and account’s director Md Lutful Haq were the two others to be charged.

Sayedee has been used and abused by the Jamaat to fortify its popularity and acceptance among the ordinary Muslims. But can the religious sermons prove that Sayedee is a pious man?

During his visit to the UK in 2006, Sayedee at a programme defended attacking the US and the UK mentioning “the UK deserves to be bombed”! The Sun on July 15, 2006 had ran a report headlined: “Ban this beast and Kill Brits hate Cleric let into UK”. The report referred Sayedee as a BEAST.

A day after he was sentenced to death and the Jamaat-Shibir violence underway, some fanatics in several districts Friday spread that Sayedee’s face was seen on the moon and that the Allah’s aides angels were with Sayedee — to portray the Jamaat leader as a very close person to Allah — a mockery everyone finds other than the blind Jamaat supporters and some beneficiaries.

It’s the joke of the century, no doubt!

But Jamaat-Shibir was successful as they could bring out thousands of Muslims to the streets in the dawn for several days and provoked attacking on the law enforcers.

Attack on Hindus has been one of the worst parts of the ongoing atrocities as their houses-temples are vandalised and looted while women are raped and the male are tortured, even killed. Attack on the minority communities have been seen in more than seven districts. But only a few newspapers have reported the extent of persecution on the women, no TV channel has been seen running any detail story highlighting their plights.

Many journalists across the country have also been attacked and threatened as their newspapers and channels are pro-liberation and telecast the Shahbagh protest, and therefore, running reports that goes against Jamaat-Shibir-BNP atrocities.

These Jamaat-Shibir-Islamist party supporters, backed by BNP, have been able to establish a reign of terror. But it’s also surprising that they claim themselves to be demonstrating to save Islam from the hands of atheist Shahbagh protesters and the autocratic govt!

Rumours are there that the Pakistan intelligence ISI is financing Jamaat against the govt while accusing Indian RAW for patronising the Shahbagh movement and the AL govt, which the BNP-Jamaat always blame to be pro-India. But it’s quite evident that there’s Pakistani link with the ongoing protests by Jamaat-Shibir and Islamist parties as they’re not showing any restrain despite different efforts to calm them. The activities of Facebook page of “বাঁশেরকেল্লা – Basherkella”, a mouthpiece of the agitating Jamaat-Shibir men who also support the BNP but can’t stand anything of the govt and the people’s movement, gives an impression that they’re funded by someone influential. The plan and propaganda are hatched here.  

However, frustration mounts among people since the govt is yet to declare Jamaat-Shibir an outlawed organisation.

The pro-liberation people are organising themselves to resist the Jamaat-Shibir hooligans in many areas across the country.

Shahbagh Gonojagoron Moncho declared a Mass Rally for today at Jatrabari intersection at 3pm — the fifth in a row outside Shahbagh intersection. Freedom-fighters, families of martyrs, students-teachers and protesters will address the Mass Rally while thousands will converge at the point. The stage will be erected on a truck.

The number of participants at Shahbagh moncho has decreased as the pace of movement has shrunk down because of loose programmes apparently to give the govt time to take a decisive decision.

The protesters are highly active on the Facebook, Twitter and blogs where they’re publishing opinions and analyses, photos and videos to support their stance against the fundamentalists. Hundreds of Facebook pages & groups are actively campaigning in this venture.

But where’s the country heading? Civil war between pro- and anti-liberation elements or an army coup?

People are divided over an immediate solution: the pro-liberation quarter say continuous shooting can stop the radical Islamists while the apolitical-middleclass and the opposition are opposing any killing and trying to compel the govt sit with them for a compromise over the trial of identified war criminals and the next polls.

But what’s the solution to avert similar atrocities that may occur by the successors of the current leadership of Jamaat in future? And, how to unchain the foreign intelligence units?

Decisions, decisions…

Meanwhile, TV scrolls say sporadic clashes and subversive activities are taking place in at least 5 districts since 5:30am Tuesday. My father called me minutes ago to stay relief to know that I was fine while I’m not sure what’s gonna happen as I need to attend office at 11am.

The whole country is panicked while the attackers and the govt agencies and pro-govt supporters are not.

We need to end the violence, punish the culprits, and work to ensure a peaceful and constructive society free from razakars.
